Cloud Computing: Google Buys Talaria

Talaria’s software exploits Python, PHP and Ruby and offers a JIT- based application server

Google’s Cloud Platform, which is supposed to have a million users and lets users build applications and web sites, store and analyze data on its infrastructure, has acquired a company called Talaria,

It’s supposed to let Googe run more software or support more users on fewer servers without changing any code, which is, as they say, is a big deal for a company with upwards of a million servers.

Terms were not disclosed.

Talaria’s software, which exploits Python, PHP and Ruby and offers a JIT- based application server, will become part of the Google cloud, which was still in beta when Talaria was acquired.

The application server is supposed to offer 10x scalability and 10x performance.

Talaria, which has powered some of the most popular sites on the Internet, says it’s building a dynamic new web application server with a JIT-based runtime. It runs real-world apps like WordPress and Drupal.

Talaria’s application server lets one handle more users with fewer boxes, instead of worrying about one’s server bill, one can get back to building one’s app.

Facebook is supposed to have similar widgetry called Hip Hop for PHP.
